Peonita specializes in treating addiction, mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorders and attachment styles in couples, families and adolescents. She also has experience with parents transitioning through the life cycle and launching young adults. She has facilitated group therapy with families struggling with addiction and with single parents developing parenting skills. She also has experience with women dealing with sexual trauma. In addition, Peonita is an ordained minister and has over 10 years of pastoral counseling experience and training in women spiritual direction and leadership. She has facilitated many groups in spiritual leadership and gender equality in the church, as well as facilitated many marriage retreats and workshops. Peonita has presented on HIV/AIDS in the African American community, social isolation amongst adolescents in the LGBT community, depression and marriage, sexual satisfaction and transparency, and launching young adults.
Peonita is a true integrationist with a psychodynamic style and uses Bowen and Adlerian treatment modalities to aid clients in unlocking truths behind their presenting symptoms. Her spiritual orientation is tapping into God’s grace and unconditional love to experience healing and change.
Peonita is a graduate of Moody Bible institute with a bachelor’s degree in education ministry. She is also a graduate of Adler School of Professional Psychology with a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a certified Prepare/Enrich faciliator of pre-marital counseling.
She is in the process of completing training in the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology program at Adler School of Professional Psychology. Peonita is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
